CABERNET FRANC - 2017
Bright red fruits, beetroot earthiness and black pepper. Fresh and crunchy but opens up into warming plums and blackberries, great chilled, or not.
The David family have been making wine in the Loire since 1634, making Sebastien 15th generation winemaker! His 15-hectare domaine is situated at Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and only Cabernet Franc is grown, mainly from vines planted by Sebastian's grandparents just after the 2nd World War, but also from vines planted in the 1930's. The vines grow on limestone and clay soils with a little gravel - ideal for the cultivation of Cabernet Franc. All is biodynamic at the domaine, hand-harvesting is employed and his wines contain only natural yeasts and no added sulphur. It is pressed by the traditional foulage method, i.e. by foot and 'Hurluberlu' translates into 'crank' or 'eccentric', much like Sebastien himself!
